Chair of the Board of Trustees:

Dr. Steve Goode CBE

I began supporting vulnerable people as a volunteer at 18, and now at 71, I continue to volunteer with Remedi, working within their restorative justice model alongside the Youth Justice Service.

After completing a History and Politics degree, I trained as a Probation Officer at the University of Nottingham, earning an MA in Social Work in 1977. I became Chief Probation Officer in Derbyshire in 1997 and served on the Parole Board from 2000 to 2006, managing complex risk cases.

In 2002, I was honoured to receive a CBE. I later joined the National Offender Management Service (NOMS) in 2004 as Regional Director in the West Midlands, retiring in 2012. My roles included managing prisons, probation trusts, and international change projects.

I became a Non-Executive Director (NED) in 2006 and served as NED/Vice Chair at Burton Hospitals, continuing through a major merger with UHDB until 2021. I have chaired three charities, including a CJS research trust and a hospital charity during COVID. I also serve as the Lead Director of my local tennis club.

I strongly believe in public service and in the capacity of individuals and communities to improve lives, regardless of their background. I am committed to continually adding value to governance roles and making a positive impact.

I am truly excited to join the team at Nottingham Counselling Services (NCS). There is clear passion and innovation in everyone I have met so far, and I am eager to offer my support and contribute as Chair of the Trustees.
